The Gyeonggi Market and Commercial District Promotion Agency held a "Traditional Market Day" event at Uijeongbu Jeil Market, the agency announced Monday.
"Traditional Market Day" is a community outreach initiative aligned with the agency's founding mission to boost local commerce by encouraging staff to shop and dine at traditional markets. The agency makes regular visits to markets across Gyeonggi Province.
Agency President Kim Min-cheol and staff visited Uijeongbu Jeil Market, where they purchased fresh produce and other food items and ate at a market restaurant to help stimulate spending at traditional markets. They also inspected drainage systems, electrical installations and aging facilities within the market to help prevent flooding and other safety hazards ahead of the monsoon season's heavy rains.
The agency distributed eco-friendly shopping bags to visitors to encourage traditional market use and raise awareness about environmentally conscious consumption.
"We organized this event hoping to offer even a small measure of encouragement to traditional market vendors who are struggling through the heat wave and monsoon season," Kim said.
