Choo Mi-ae promotes first female fire station chief-level officer in Gyeonggi fire department history

Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae presented appointment certificates Monday to newly promoted senior fire officers at the provincial government office in Suwon, including the first woman ever promoted from within the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters to the rank of fire superintendent since the agency's founding in 1992.

Heo Seon-gyeong, the newly appointed fire superintendent, has held a range of key positions across Gyeonggi Province and earned recognition for her expertise and leadership in fire prevention, disaster response and organizational management. The rank of fire superintendent is equivalent to fire station chief; Gyeonggi Province has 49 officers at that level, and Heo is the first woman to reach it through internal promotion within the province.

"Heo Seon-gyeong's promotion is the result not of gender, but of the expertise and responsibility she has built on the ground, and her dedication to protecting the lives and safety of Gyeonggi residents," Choo said. "I hope this new chapter in Gyeonggi Province's fire service history becomes a beacon of hope and a milestone for many future officers to follow."

Also receiving appointment certificates at Monday's ceremony were fire senior superintendent Park Jeong-hun and fire superintendents Moon Chung-rak, Seo Ui-seok, Jo Jae-gwan and Lee Yong-seok.
