Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun said Monday he attended a National Assembly forum calling for construction of a central region express railway, known as JTX, posting about the visit on his social media.
"The central region express railway runs from Jamsil through Hwaseong to Cheongju," Jeong said. "Once built, travel time from Dongtan to Cheongju Airport — currently about 90 minutes — would be cut to under 50 minutes. Passengers could travel the entire route without transferring, greatly improving convenience for residents and strengthening the regional transport network connecting the central corridor."
He then said, "Transportation is the most critical foundation for transforming residents' daily lives and opening up a region's future. We will work with the central government and relevant agencies to push for the early realization of the central region express railway."
Jeong added that he would "do everything possible to resolve transportation challenges and expand regional transport infrastructure, so that residents can travel more conveniently and enjoy a better quality of life."
