Gu Chang-mo releases first album in 37 years, featuring 14 tracks

Ddolbae Entertainment said Monday that Gu Chang-mo, lead vocalist of the band Songgolmae and a solo artist, will release a special album titled "Memory & Future" at noon Tuesday.

"Memory & Future" is Gu's first official album in 37 years, following his fifth studio album "Seupeun Yeonjeong" in 1989.

The album contains 14 tracks in total — 12 hit songs from his Songgolmae days and solo career, along with two new songs.

The title track, "Tto Dasi Majuchin Geudae," is a sequel paying homage to Songgolmae's signature hit "Eojjeoda Majuchin Geudae." The agency described the song as blending a surging funk rhythm with Gu's powerful vocals to deliver both nostalgic warmth and a contemporary polish.

The other new track, "Jigu Byeol-ui Yeonin," is a classical vocal-style song reminiscent of contemporary Christian music.

On Tuesday, the album's release day, Gu will perform five songs live — including the new tracks — on the YouTube channel Suwajin TV at 8 p.m.

Gu made his debut in 1978 at the TBC Beach Song Festival as a member of Black Tetra, winning a popularity award with the song "Gureum-gwa Na." He went on to become the lead vocalist of Songgolmae in the 1980s, scoring hits including "Modu Da Saranghari" and "Cheoeum Bon Sungan." As a solo artist, he also enjoyed wide popularity with songs such as "Hinari" and "Apeun Mankeum Sungsukhaeji-go."

At a press conference for Songgolmae's nationwide tour in 2022, Gu expressed his enduring passion for music. "I want to bring the passion and desire for music that I had in my 20s straight into this era," he said.
