National Assembly Speaker Jo Jeong-sik met with Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin at his office Tuesday to discuss key issues in education, including AI instruction.
Jo told Choi that, having served as both a teacher and a school superintendent, she understood classroom realities better than anyone, and urged her to craft education policies that faithfully reflect voices from the field.
He also expressed concern over a culture of hatred that has seeped into schools, citing the drama series "Teach You a Lesson" and a recent controversy over a school baseball team's cheering culture. "Please build an educational environment where a culture of truth and coexistence — not falsehood and hatred — can take root," he said.
Jo said school violence and violations of teachers' rights have emerged as serious social problems, and called on the minister to pay special attention to creating safe schools. "The National Assembly will also do its part to provide the necessary legislative support," he said.
He added that education plays a paramount role in leading the AI transformation era. "The National Assembly will actively support the expansion of AI education so that students can develop the capabilities to lead tomorrow's society," he said.
Choi said she would work closely with the Assembly to ensure teachers can focus on instruction and counseling, and that family and other problems facing young people can be addressed through institutional means. "I will take careful stock of how to ensure all citizens can freely use AI and receive practical benefits in educational settings," she said.
