Netanyahu warns Iran near nuclear site: 'Don't expect us to be quiet'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran's leadership Tuesday not to expect silence after any attack, delivering the message from Dimona — a city in the Negev Desert that is home to Israel's Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center.

Speaking at the Negev Conference in Dimona, Netanyahu said, "We are prepared for every scenario," according to CNN and Yonhap.

"Do not expect the past to repeat itself — that will not happen," he said. "Our previous responses were strong enough, but if there are further attempts to harm us, we will respond in a way that is completely different from before and far more powerful."

Netanyahu added that the era of not retaliating doubly against those who harm Israel was over. "We did that to Iran's 'axis of evil,' and we will continue to do so to anyone who harms us," he said.

Israel struck petrochemical facilities in southwestern Iran on June 8 in retaliation for an Iranian missile strike. CNN reported at the time that Israel had been preparing a far larger air campaign against Iran, but the plan fell through after President Donald Trump downplayed Iran's ballistic missile attack and forced a truce.

Netanyahu's warning came as the US-Iran truce has effectively collapsed. Trump announced Monday that he would reimpose a maritime blockade targeting Iranian vessels and customers doing business with Iran.

About 180 Iranian lawmakers issued a statement Tuesday calling on Iran to treat its MOU with the United States as void, arguing that Trump's declaration ending the agreement left Iran no choice. They also vowed to continue seeking revenge for the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.

Conditions in the strait continued to deteriorate. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed that two oil tankers were struck by missiles while transiting a southern route through the Strait of Hormuz.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency warned airlines to avoid airspace over Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE, as well as the Gulf of Oman.
