Yeongdeungpo-gu, led by District Mayor Jo Yu-jin, is accepting applications for the Yeongdeungpo-gu Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities to help adults with developmental disabilities build independence and pursue lifelong learning.
The center, which opened in 2020, provides lifelong education and care services to help people with developmental disabilities realize their potential and lead fulfilling lives as members of the local community.
Programs are run by specialists in developmental disabilities, including special education teachers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, social workers, and lifelong education instructors. Offerings range from foundational literacy — building reading, writing, and practical language skills — to vocational development courses that help participants identify suitable career paths and build relevant competencies. Beyond the core curriculum, the center brings in outside experts to lead specialized classes in dance, music, VR activities, hanji crafts, and adaptive physical education.
The center is open to adult residents of Yeongdeungpo-gu with developmental disabilities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from July 6 until enrollment is full. The center operates on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and participants may attend for up to five years; enrollment may be extended in one-year increments if capacity allows. The monthly fee is 200,000 won ($134), with an additional 110,000 won for meals.
Applicants can download the application form from the center's website, then submit it in person at the fifth-floor office at 105 Munraebuk-ro, or by mail or email.
The district was designated a lifelong learning city for people with disabilities for the fourth consecutive year in March, and has been focusing on AI and digital skills education for people with disabilities. The district plans to continue expanding its lifelong learning programs — from basic digital literacy to VR and AI-based creative activities — tailored to learners at every level.
