[Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung Chang-su, the district mayor of Seoul's Gangbuk-gu, is making the rounds of community centers and key facilities across all 13 of the district's neighborhoods as part of a field-focused approach to local governance.
The tour was organized to let Jung assess the key issues and distinct characteristics of each neighborhood firsthand and gather input from frontline staff and facility managers for incorporation into district policy. The schedule runs from July 14 through July 23, with one to three neighborhoods visited each day.
At each community center, Jung tours the public service counter and building facilities, greets staff, reviews local conditions and pressing issues, and listens to a range of opinions. He then visits major facilities, private organization offices and welfare facilities in the area to meet with those involved.
The tour kicked off Tuesday with visits to Songcheon-dong and Songjung-dong. In Songcheon-dong, Jung inspected the construction site of a new district-run senior center and community hall, while in Songjung-dong he discussed plans to expand escalator access at Mia Sageori Station. On Wednesday, he visited Mia-dong, Suyu 1-dong and Samgaksan-dong, checking on operations at community centers and the Samgaksan Children's Library.
On Thursday, Jung is scheduled to visit Ui-dong, Insu-dong and Suyu 2-dong, touring a saemaul community hall and private organization offices and meeting with local stakeholders. He will then wrap up the tour with successive visits to Beon 1-dong, Suyu 3-dong, Samyang-dong, Beon 3-dong and Beon 2-dong.
"Going out to the field, seeing things for myself and listening to people's concerns is a vital foundation for running the district," Jung said. "I will continue to pay close attention to the unique characteristics and issues of each area and deliver governance that residents can truly feel."
