Samsung Fire, Gangbuk Samsung Hospital to establish LifeCare Innovation Center

Samsung Fire and Gangbuk Samsung Hospital announced Thursday they will jointly establish a "LifeCare Innovation Center" to develop models for chronic disease prevention and management.

The two organizations held an opening ceremony Wednesday at Samsung Fire's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, building on an MOU signed in March. Samsung Fire President Lee Moon-hwa and Gangbuk Samsung Hospital Director Shin Hyun-chul attended, along with other senior officials from both sides.

The two organizations agreed to build a new healthcare model capable of preventing and systematically managing chronic diseases — a leading health concern for modern Koreans — in response to a broader shift in the medical environment away from treatment and toward prevention and ongoing health management.

Under the partnership, the two companies plan to establish and operate the LifeCare Innovation Center, jointly develop chronic disease management solutions, and pilot and commercialize services using medical infrastructure.

Gangbuk Samsung Hospital brings more than 40 years of clinical data from health screenings and cohort research capabilities. Combined with Samsung Fire's expertise in operating and piloting healthcare services, the partnership aims to generate synergies in disease risk prediction and personalized health management.

The two companies plan to build a prevention-focused management model — developed in stages — that comprehensively analyzes customers' health conditions and lifestyle habits, detects chronic disease risks early and delivers appropriate health management services.

Lee Moon-hwa, president of Samsung Fire, said it was meaningful to partner with Gangbuk Samsung Hospital, which has top-tier health screening infrastructure and clinical expertise. "Beyond providing financial protection after an accident, we will evolve into a 'total LifeCare platform' that prevents and manages customers' health risks," he said.

Meanwhile, Samsung Fire signed a mid-to-long-term healthcare cooperation MOU with digital healthcare company Seers in May and has been pursuing the joint commercialization of a wearable device-based health management service.
