Singer Young Tak's fandom donates Venezuela earthquake relief funds to UNHCR

Singer Young Tak's fandom has donated festival proceeds to help victims of an overseas disaster, putting the social value of fandom activity into practice.

Young Tak's fandom, Young Tak and Blues (Youngbles), said Thursday it donated 1 million won ($670) in relief funds to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to support displaced people affected by a major earthquake in Venezuela.

The donation was raised through "Charles Bakery," a fan-participation event run by Santakclaus, a charitable fan group within the fandom, during Young Tak's fan concert in May. The funds were delivered under the name of the official fandom, Young Tak and Blues.

The money will go toward practical relief efforts for people who lost their homes in the Venezuela earthquake. In line with UNHCR relief standards, the funds will provide safe tents for displaced residents and set up emergency shelter spaces that can accommodate multiple families.

The donation carried added significance as it was made in the name of the entire fandom rather than any individual. Young Tak and Blues said the fandom joined the effort to aid overseas disaster victims as a way of acting on the messages of comfort and positivity that Young Tak conveys.

Meanwhile, Young Tak continues to stay active on television. He appears on tvN's "Naked World History" every Monday and is set to appear on KBS2's "Immortal Songs — King of Kings." He is also scheduled to meet viewers through SBS's "Our Neighborhood's Golden Age," which premieres Aug. 8.
