GS Global is moving into the K-beauty retail market, partnering with Cosme Kitchen, a premium clean and natural beauty concept store in Japan.
GS Global announced Thursday that starting July 24 it will sell three domestic cosmetics brands through Cosme Kitchen stores across Japan and their online and offline channels. The three brands are Jeju Indy, Talida Kum and Pretty Actually.
Cosme Kitchen is a premium beauty concept store operated by Marsh Beauty Lab, a subsidiary of Marsh Group, a well-known Japanese lifestyle conglomerate. The chain runs more than 70 stores in major commercial districts across Japan.
The project marks GS Global's first commercial sale under its cosmetics business initiative. GS Global's headquarters led cosmetics business development and brand scouting, while its local Japanese subsidiary, GS Japan, handled distribution and operations. Founded in 1964, GS Japan is the largest overseas hub in GS Global's international network. Beyond its traditional steel trading roots, it successfully established a Korean food distribution channel at Japanese retailer Don Quijote last year in collaboration with GS Retail.
GS Global explained its choice of Cosme Kitchen as its first Japanese partner by saying it determined that "a premium environment capable of conveying not just distribution reach but also brand philosophy and sustainability was essential."
To strengthen its cosmetics retail business, GS Global plans to handle the entire distribution process in-house — from brand scouting and product planning to exports, local certification and imports, inventory management, and sales data analysis. The company particularly aims to serve as a practical global bridge for promising domestic indie brands that struggle to enter overseas markets on their own.
GS Global plans to build a global beauty retail platform, starting with the Japanese market. A GS Global official said the entry into Cosme Kitchen was "a first milestone in confirming the synergy between the competitiveness of Korean indie cosmetics and Japan's premium beauty channels," adding that the company would "draw on the retail know-how accumulated in the Japanese market to help more domestic brands expand overseas, and in the long term develop a global beauty business model encompassing cosmetics and aesthetics."
Meanwhile, GS Global participated in the "Cosme Kitchen 2026 Awesome Exhibition," a preview-style trade show hosted by Marsh Beauty Lab, held over two days starting July 8 at Marsh Group's headquarters in Kojimachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
