Hanshin Construction chief visits Yangju site to inspect heat, flood safety measures

Hanshin Construction announced Thursday that CEO Jeon Jae-sik and other executives visited the Hanshin The Hue construction site in Deokgye-dong, Yangju on Wednesday to inspect safety management preparations for extreme heat and heavy rainfall.

Jeon and the executive team focused on verifying compliance with five core heat-illness prevention protocols — covering water supply, cooling equipment, rest breaks, cold-retention gear and emergency response. They also carefully reviewed the status of drainage infrastructure and flood-control materials stockpiled ahead of the monsoon season, as well as the implementation of flood prevention plans designed to guard against inundation and structural collapse.

As part of its commitment to site-centered safety management, Hanshin Construction has Jeon, its chief safety officer, division heads and other executives conduct direct monthly visits to major construction sites to carry out safety and health inspections.

With peak summer heat now under way, the company has designated "heat waves and monsoon rains" as its July safety theme and is running intensive prevention campaigns across all sites. It is using safety checklists developed in line with Ministry of Employment and Labor guidelines to raise on-site management standards, while distributing heat-illness prevention training videos and one-sheet educational materials to strengthen workers' safety awareness.

The company is also reinforcing its heavy-rainfall response system by inspecting flood prevention plan compliance at all sites and continuously addressing areas for improvement.

Hanshin Construction said this proactive, site-focused approach to safety management has helped it achieve five consecutive years without a serious workplace accident. The company plans to further refine its prevention-centered safety management framework and build a sustainable safety culture under the principle that safety is the top priority, one that cannot be compromised for any reason.

"The five consecutive years without a serious accident reflect the thorough commitment of every person on our sites to following safety protocols," a company official said. "Going forward, we will strictly observe work rules based on the heat index, ensure adequate rest and preventive measures, and do everything we can to prevent even a single case of heat illness through September — while continuing to work harder on safety management to keep our zero serious-accident record intact."

Meanwhile, Hanshin Construction received the top rating — a score of 95 or above — in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2026 mutual cooperation evaluation for construction contractors.
