Huons N (CEO Son Dong-chul), a unit of Huons Group, has received individual recognition from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its self-developed medicinal plant ingredient — heal-all extract powder — as a functional raw material for prostate health.
Heal-all (Prunella vulgaris) is a medicinal plant long used in Eastern medicine. Huons N standardized the active compounds, established an optimal extraction process and scientifically verified the ingredient's efficacy in improving prostate health to secure the individual functional recognition.
"Animal studies confirmed that heal-all extract powder improved indicators related to prostate enlargement, including prostate weight and the thickness of prostatic epithelial cells," the company said. "Positive changes were also observed in proteins related to prostate cell proliferation and apoptosis, as well as hormonal markers."
The company added that the ingredient also showed potential for improving urinary function. Analysis indicated the powder affects the reduction of prostatic smooth muscle contraction and the regulation of bladder contraction intervals through a mechanism that relaxes excessive contraction of the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder, it said.
"In human clinical trials, participants who consumed heal-all extract powder showed improvement in their total International Prostate Symptom Score," a Huons N official said. "Improvement trends were confirmed across a broad range of symptoms, including residual urine sensation, frequent urination, weak urine stream, delayed urination, interrupted urination and nocturia."
