Hwaseong launches joint campaign for safer two-wheeled vehicle use

Hwaseong City held a joint public-private campaign Thursday at the Anhwa Middle School intersection to promote safe riding practices for motorcycles, bicycles and personal mobility devices.

Participants focused on raising awareness of safety rules for personal mobility devices, whose use has been growing in recent years.

To address the persistent problem of illegally abandoned personal mobility devices, Hwaseong last year became the first city in Gyeonggi Province to introduce a designated-location rental and return system.

The city installed 1,050 dedicated parking spots for personal mobility devices by the end of last year and plans to add 356 more this year to fundamentally eliminate safety hazards caused by abandoned and illegally parked devices.

The city also plans to pilot a flexible school zone speed limit system that tightens restrictions during children's school commute hours while adjusting to traffic flow late at night.

"We will continue a range of outreach and education efforts to raise safety awareness among riders of two-wheeled vehicles, including personal mobility devices, while consistently expanding traffic safety infrastructure and related policies so residents can travel with peace of mind," Mayor Jeong said.
