Jungnang-gu has welcomed its first resident at the newly opened Jungnang Ansim Intermediate Home, District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi announced.
The facility offers a short-term recovery space for elderly residents discharged from hospital who are not yet ready to manage daily life on their own. Residents stay for a set period before returning home, receiving coordinated medical care, caregiving and housing support designed to prevent readmission and ease the transition back to independent living.
The district was selected in April through a competitive application for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's intermediate-home model development project, securing the foundation to move forward. In June, it signed an MOU with the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation to convert four units within the Sinnae Medical Care Housing complex into intermediate-home rooms. The district then built an operational framework and worked with medical institutions to identify elderly patients in need of post-discharge care, paving the way for the first admission.
The first resident, a 69-year-old, had repeatedly cycled through admissions and discharges at Seoul Medical Center and Seoul Metropolitan Government Seoul Northern Hospital due to chronic diabetes and diabetic foot complications. Now at the facility, the resident is receiving a recovery program that includes medical management, meal support and prescribed exercise in a comfortable environment, with an AI-based fall-prevention belt supporting safe rehabilitation and daily recovery.
Going forward, the district plans to deepen cooperation with medical institutions, the National Health Insurance Service and private organizations to build a seamless support network covering everything from identifying recently discharged elderly residents to their recovery and return home, expanding a stable community-based care foundation through the facility's continued operation.
"We established the Jungnang Ansim Intermediate Home for elderly residents who need recovery and care after being discharged from hospital," District Mayor Ryu said. "We will strengthen a community-centered support system that links medical, caregiving and housing services so that elderly residents can return to their daily lives with stability."
