Yeongdeungpo-gu, led by District Mayor Cho Yu-jin, will operate a pop-up water park at Singil Neighborhood Park for three days, from Aug. 14 to 16, to give residents relief from the ongoing heat wave.
The event is designed to let families enjoy cool water activities and cultural performances at a park close to home. Last year, about 1,300 local residents visited to beat the heat.
This year's setup features a range of water facilities for all ages. A large pool measuring 14 meters by 8 meters, a 5-meter-high water slide, and a dedicated pool for infants and toddlers will be installed so visitors of every age group can play safely. A shaded rest area for guardians will also be provided.
Beyond the water play, the event offers a variety of entertainment. Children can enjoy balloon art, bubble shows and magic performances, while a garden culture program called "Dallyeora Jeongwon Bus" — a garden-themed activity bus — will run in one corner of the water park area.
Hands-on craft activities will be available for participants, including making a personalized flowerpot, a pressed-flower bookmark and a floral illustration keyring.
Safety and hygiene will be closely managed. The district will station at least one lifeguard at each pool and slide to monitor swimmers and control unsafe behavior at all times. A portion of the water will be replaced and disinfected once daily during operating hours, and water quality checks will be conducted every two hours.
The pop-up water park will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Advance registration opens Friday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are divided into two sessions — Session 1 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Session 2 (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) — with 200 spots per session. Admission is free. Residents can register by scanning the QR code on the promotional poster.
"We have prepared this event so that residents worn out by the summer heat can enjoy a cool and safe summer getaway right at the park near their homes," District Mayor Cho said. "We hope entire families will come together, enjoy the water and hands-on activities, and create special memories."
