The National Health Insurance Service announced Monday that it will hold a special event to encourage participation in the national cancer screening program during the summer vacation season.
The event aims to reach people who have put off screenings due to busy schedules and to ease the year-end rush that typically builds when many people try to get tested at once. The service is using the relatively quiet summer period to encourage more people to get screened.
The event runs through Sept. 11. Those who complete a national cancer screening and register for the event during that period will be entered into a draw, with gift vouchers awarded to 1,000 winners.

The national cancer screening program covers six types of cancer with high incidence rates in South Korea: stomach, colorectal, liver, breast, cervical and lung cancer. When detected and treated early, the survival rate exceeds 90 percent.
