Jennie of K-pop group Blackpink has opened up about her insecurities over her body.
In an interview with fashion magazine Cosmopolitan published Monday, Jennie said she has been paying closer attention to both her body and mind than before. "I'm in the process of becoming friends with my body," she said. "There were definitely parts of myself I felt insecure about. I'm quite small, so early in my career I felt pressure to make myself look taller. But now I'm learning to love my body as it is and figuring out which styles suit my frame best. I feel more confident in myself than I used to."
Jennie stands 163 centimeters tall, around the average height for women in South Korea.
Jennie released her debut solo studio album "Ruby" last year and has been focused on her solo career, dropping "Less Than a Lover" last month. "Honestly, the past year has been a whirlwind," she said. "I never had a moment to just sit down, adjust to all the changes, and fully take in everything 'Ruby' brought me."
Though each member has been busy with solo pursuits, Jennie also expressed affection for her Blackpink bandmates. "I grew up with the members," she said. "We were always together through the hard times and the good times. We looked out for each other and exchanged advice. So I never once felt lost."
Jennie said the bond she shares with her bandmates will not change, given everything they have been through together. She said she feels grateful that they can still lean on one another even as each pursues her own path.
Jennie debuted with Blackpink in 2016 and has released hits including "Whistle," "Playing with Fire," "DDU-DU DDU-DU," "Shut Down" and "Jump."
