Actor Jeong Bo-seok reveals why he shut down his Seongbuk-dong bakery cafe — his son kept leaving early to work out

Actor Jeong Bo-seok has opened up about why he closed the bakery cafe he once ran with his son.

A video titled "The day I met sunbae Jewelry Jeong and dug up the past" was uploaded to actor Hwang Jung-eum's YouTube channel on Wednesday.

In the video, Jeong explained the story behind closing the bakery cafe he had operated with his second son out of his renovated home in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul.

"I opened the bakery because of my second son," he said. "But after he moved out and it was just the two of us living there, my wife ended up handling everything from opening to closing."

He added that his son would show up around 10 in the morning and leave by 5 in the afternoon to go work out. "I told him to come back after his workout and handle closing, but he trusted his mom to take care of it and just didn't bother," Jeong said.

"My wife started complaining of joint pain from slicing bread all day. I was really upset about that," he said.

Jeong said he warned his son several times before finally shutting the place down. His son ultimately moved the cafe to a new location.

Apparently unwilling to give up the business entirely, the son proposed renting the kitchen equipment from his parents in exchange for a share of the cafe's revenue as a rental fee.

Jeong also shared a behind-the-scenes detail: "When we ran the place together, he didn't even want to use my name, so he put it under his own. But now that he's doing it alone, I guess he misses having the connection — he's been asking if I'd be his model."

He added that it was a mistake for parents to be the ones to suggest a business venture to their children in the first place. "Helping unconditionally isn't always the answer," he told Hwang Jung-eum. "Raising my granddaughter made me think about how I raised my own kids. Children grow up well when you watch over them with love."
