HMM hosts children's merchant vessel experience program

HMM announced Friday that it held its "2026 Children's Merchant Vessel Experience" event for elementary school students.

The Children's Merchant Vessel Experience is one of HMM's signature summer vacation social contribution programs, designed to give children a firsthand look at ultra-large container ships and port logistics operations — environments they would rarely encounter in everyday life.

About 20 elementary school students first visited HMM Terminal at Busan New Port, where they attended an introductory session explaining ship and port operations in accessible terms. They then toured an ultra-large vessel stretching roughly 400 meters and observed nonstop container loading and unloading operations, getting a vivid sense of the maritime logistics industry firsthand.

The students also visited the training center of HMM Ocean Service, a ship management subsidiary of HMM, where they tried a ship navigation simulator. Originally built to train maritime crew members, the simulator gave the children a chance to steer a vessel in an environment identical to that of a real ship.

"We hope this experience of the maritime logistics scene will help children nurture their interest in and dreams about the sea," an HMM official said. "We plan to continue contributing to local communities through a variety of social contribution activities that draw on the distinctive character of the shipping industry."

Meanwhile, HMM has been carrying out a range of social contribution activities to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, including a beach cleanup at Geojampo Beach on Yeongjongdo in Incheon with this year's new employees.
