President Lee Jae Myung said Saturday that young people should never hesitate to marry because of government policy, and pledged that the administration would ensure marriage becomes a hopeful new beginning rather than a burden.
Lee made the remarks in a post on X, formerly Twitter, and said he had directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into systemic disadvantages that people may face as a result of getting married and to report back to him.
He also said the government had gathered a wide range of views through youth forums, real estate discussions and reviews by related ministries. "In that process, 22 priority tasks were proposed that directly affect residential life and asset formation — covering areas such as loans, apartment subscriptions and taxation," he said.
Lee added that he intended to examine each item carefully to determine whether improvements were needed and whether any proposed measures would be fair and genuinely helpful to everyone.
He said he wanted to listen to the public and work together to bring about changes — large and small — that people could actually feel. He also invited citizens to share any other policies they considered unreasonable.
