Former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo sharply criticized independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon on Saturday, saying he "lived and died by power."
In a Facebook post, Hong said commentator Jeong Gyu-jae had called Han a "cheap prosecutor," while he himself had dubbed Han "Joseon's No. 1 Gum" — a play on the honorific "Joseon's No. 1 Blade" that some media had bestowed on him.
"The family-owned press praised that cheap prosecutor as 'Joseon's No. 1 Blade,'" Hong wrote. "A prosecutor lives and dies by justice. But he lived and died by power."
Hong added that Han, together with Yoon Suk Yeol, had been "the root cause that brought down 80 years of prosecutorial history." Those who blindly follow Han are "truly pitiful and foolish people," he said, and South Korean society must no longer allow such "cheap prosecutors" to run amok.
