Coway launches half-price rental promotion for summer appliances after record quarterly earnings

Coway announced Monday it is launching a special promotion on key summer lifestyle products — including wall-mounted air conditioners and food waste disposers — as the peak heat season gets underway.

The promotion runs through Aug. 26. Customers who sign new rental contracts for the wall-mounted air conditioner or the Zero Food Waste Disposer Grinding Type will receive up to 50% off monthly rental fees for a set period, while the home-use urinary incontinence treatment medical device "Therasol U" will also be available at 50% off rental fees for up to 12 months.

New rental customers for the wall-mounted air conditioner will receive 50% off monthly fees for up to 18 months. The unit automatically adjusts airflow in four directions and offers power cooling, dehumidification, fan and sleep modes to suit different spaces and conditions. It also features an auto-dry function that removes internal moisture after cooling ends, along with a clean-wash function that flushes dust and debris from the heat exchanger.

The Zero Food Waste Disposer Grinding Type, available in 2L and 3L models, comes with 50% off rental fees for up to four months on new contracts. The appliance uses a high-output 150-degree Celsius heating system and Coway's proprietary four-blade technology to quickly dry and grind food waste, and incorporates a large-capacity activated carbon filter, UV-C sterilization and high-temperature cleaning. Customers also receive one free replacement of the drying drum during the rental period.

Therasol U is a medical device approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. It delivers repeated low-frequency stimulation to induce contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding tissue, helping to relieve urinary incontinence symptoms. A dedicated charging and storage stand is included with the device.

The promotion extends Coway's rental push targeting the summer peak season. In July, the company ran its "Ice Festa" campaign, cutting rental fees on ice water purifiers by up to 50% for 18 months. Wall-mounted air conditioners and food waste disposers are among the new rental categories Coway has been building out, and the company said domestic rental net additions in the second quarter rose 51.6% year-on-year to 242,000 units.

"We put together this promotion so that customers can use a wide range of products — from wall-mounted air conditioners and food waste disposers to home medical devices — at a reasonable cost during the hot summer months," a Coway official said. "We will continue to roll out meaningful rental benefits that customers can feel directly."

Meanwhile, Coway said Thursday that it posted consolidated sales of 1.44 trillion won ($1.02 billion) and operating profit of 253.2 billion won in the second quarter of this year, up 14.6% and 4.3%, respectively, from the same period a year earlier — both quarterly records. For the first half of the year, cumulative sales rose 13.9% year-on-year to 2.77 trillion won, while operating profit climbed 11.1% to 504.1 billion won.

"Driven by strong sales growth across key product lines — including five ice water purifier models and the Berex mattress and massage chair — domestic rental net additions in the second quarter rose 51.6% year-on-year to 242,000 units," the company said.
