Blackpink's Jisoo pushes back on speculation over tears at 10th anniversary event

Blackpink member and actor Jisoo has spoken out about the speculation surrounding her tears at the group's 10th anniversary event.

Jisoo posted a lengthy message on a fan communication platform on Sunday. Addressing the moment she was seen crying at the anniversary event, she opened by saying, "I think a lot of people were surprised that I cried on Sunday. I'm also human. I can't believe I'm not a robot."

She then offered a candid account of the atmosphere at the event. "There are things I want to say, things I can say, things I'm allowed to say, and things I don't need to say — and because the line between all of that is so hard to draw, I think it was difficult for everyone to speak freely yesterday," she said.

Appearing to address rumors of discord among the members, Jisoo emphasized her affection for her bandmates. "I just wanted to say that I love all four of us so, so, so much, and that I hold each of you incredibly dear," she said.

She also pushed back against attempts to read deeper meaning into her tears. "I hope people won't attach too many meanings to my crying. I just want to gather all those emotions together and sum it up as being moved by the 10 years we've shared," she said.

She questioned the assumption that visible tears signal the deepest sincerity. "Does crying in front of people for the first time mean I was the most genuine, or the most upset, this time around?" she wrote. "I don't think so. Just because I didn't cry on tour doesn't mean I wasn't moved."

Jisoo closed by reflecting on the misunderstandings that silence can create. "The misunderstandings and hurt feelings that come from not saying things — I know it's frustrating. But this was a 10th anniversary we should have been celebrating together," she said. "I know I've already caused some disappointment, but more than anything, I hope the negative talk and the endless chain of speculation will stop."

Blackpink held a 10th anniversary event on Saturday at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event had been preceded by complaints about how it was organized, leaving some fans disappointed. Speculation that some members might not attend had also circulated, but all four showed up and met fans as a complete group.

Even so, fan frustration over the event had not fully subsided when Jisoo unexpectedly broke down in tears at the venue, fueling further speculation about the relationships among the members. Jisoo then stepped forward to explain her emotions and caution against reading too much into the moment.
