Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu announced Wednesday that the Imun 2-dong Committee of the Korea Freedom Federation's Dongdaemun-gu chapter installed a "Taegukgi Pinwheel Path" along the pavilion rest path in front of Imun Elementary School ahead of the 81st Liberation Day.
The Imun 2-dong Committee planned and carried out the initiative as a volunteer effort to mark the 81st anniversary of liberation and to instill a spirit of patriotism in local residents and elementary school students — the next generation.
The Imun 2-dong community administrator, Seoul Metropolitan Assembly member Oh Jung-seok and Dongdaemun-gu lawmaker Jeon Beom-il attended as guests, joining members of the Korea Freedom Federation's Imun 2-dong Committee. Participants carefully placed colorful Taegukgi pinwheels one by one along the safety fences and green spaces surrounding Imun Elementary School.
The pinwheels spin in the breeze, brightening the route students take to and from school while catching the eyes of passersby. Installed along a path children walk every day, the display is expected to help young students grow more familiar with the national flag and serve as a living classroom where they can absorb the historical significance of liberation in their daily lives.
Imun 2-dong administrator Park Bong-gyu said he was deeply grateful to the Korea Freedom Federation's Imun 2-dong Committee "for creating such a meaningful opportunity for the children and residents of our community ahead of the 81st Liberation Day." He added that he hoped "the many residents who pass along this path, with its Taegukgi pinwheels spinning vigorously, will find it an occasion to reflect on the joy of liberation and renew their sense of patriotism."
A representative of the Korea Freedom Federation's Imun 2-dong Committee said the event was a success thanks to the city and district lawmakers, the community administrator and dedicated committee members who joined despite busy schedules. The committee plans to continue a range of volunteer and community service activities to promote local development and deepen residents' love of country, the representative added.
