A competition inviting digital content creators to tackle pressing social issues through their work will be held in Incheon.

George Mason University Korea Campus will accept online submissions for the 2026 Social Impact Digital Art Competition — its sixth edition — from Monday through Oct. 11.

The competition is designed to give teenagers and university students familiar with digital content such as games, animation and webtoons a chance to examine social problems from fresh perspectives and express creative solutions through their work.

The theme is "challenges facing our society and how to address them." Participants may freely choose any social issue that interests them — including the low birth rate, aging, the environment, education and gender conflict — and interpret it through their submission.

Eligible categories are animation, webtoons, computer games, video and illustration. Middle and high school students as well as university students, both domestic and international, may enter.

The total purse is 8.6 million won ($6,060). Awards include a grand prize and category prizes for games, animation and video, and webtoons and illustration, as well as a popularity award. Middle and high school winners will also receive a commendation from the superintendent of the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education.

Finalists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work before a live audience.

Works that advance past the first round of judging will be displayed at Hyundai Premium Outlets Songdo from Nov. 6 to Nov. 15, during which on-site audience participation and final judging will take place. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 28.

Entries will be evaluated on social value, completeness, artistic merit and originality.

George Mason University Korea Campus launched the competition in 2021, when 59 participants entered. The event has grown every year since, surpassing 1,000 cumulative participants through last year. Cumulative exhibition attendance has also exceeded 3,000.

The competition's reach has extended well beyond South Korea, drawing participants from up to nine countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Canada, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, India and the UAE.

Joshua Park, president of George Mason University Korea Campus, said the competition is "more than just a contest — it is a global platform where the next generation can use digital technology and creativity to explore social issues and propose solutions."
