LG Uplus expands public cloud push with AWS brokerage service registration

LG Uplus is expanding its public cloud business by combining Amazon Web Services' global cloud infrastructure with its own network and security operations capabilities. The company's strategy is to strengthen AWS-based cloud services and capture growing demand for digital transformation among public institutions.

LG Uplus said Wednesday it had officially registered its AWS cloud infrastructure-as-a-service brokerage offering — called "LG Uplus Brokerage Service for Amazon Web Services" — on the Digital Service Support System.

The Digital Service Support System is a platform dedicated to the public sector. Central and local government agencies and public institutions can use it to search for and procure digital services, including infrastructure-as-a-service, software-as-a-service and cloud support services. Any new service seeking registration must first pass a review by the Ministry of Science and ICT's Digital Service Review Committee.

LG Uplus said the registration enables public sector organizations to access its AWS cloud infrastructure brokerage service through the platform, describing the move as laying the groundwork for further expansion in the public cloud market.

Drawing on its cloud deployment and operations expertise as well as its experience running its own telecommunications infrastructure, LG Uplus plans to help individual institutions adopt AWS services tailored to their own standards and operational needs. Representative use cases include AI-powered chatbots for civil complaint handling and administrative support, AI-based information retrieval services, and database systems for managing statistical and administrative data.

The company also plans to broaden its offerings to cover the full digital transformation lifecycle. It intends to leverage its capabilities in networking, security, data and AI transformation to recommend optimal infrastructure configurations for public sector clients at the outset of cloud adoption, and to support stable operations and efficiency improvements after migration.

"LG Uplus will help public institutions adopt AWS cloud infrastructure more quickly and reliably, providing an operating framework optimized for each organization's work environment and security requirements," said Jeong Yeong-hun, head of enterprise AI business at LG Uplus.
