Hyundai Department Store announced Wednesday that it had donated 200 million won ($141,000) to Habitat for Humanity Korea, an international nonprofit focused on residential welfare, to improve the living conditions of descendants of independence patriots.
Habitat for Humanity Korea has been building homes and supporting housing self-sufficiency for people in substandard living conditions since 1994. Since 2017, the organization has run a dedicated project to improve the residential environments of independence patriots' descendants and has so far built and dedicated a total of 23 new homes to such families.
Hyundai Department Store customers also took part in the donation drive. Starting in June, the company ran a campaign through its integrated membership H Point app allowing customers to donate their accumulated H Points, with one point equivalent to 1 won. Combined with the company's own contribution, the total fund reflected participation from about 7,000 customers through Monday.
Yang Myeong-seong, executive managing director of sales strategy at Hyundai Department Store, said the company would "continue to carry out a variety of corporate social responsibility activities to remember the sacrifices of those who devoted themselves to the nation and to express our gratitude."
