Gwanak-gu to crack down on mixed waste disposal through November

Seoul's Gwanak-gu announced Wednesday it will launch an intensive crackdown on mixed waste disposal targeting Sillim Intersection, a restaurant-dense area home to Sundae Town and Sinwon Market.

The district will deploy "illegal dumping marshals" to patrol the Sillim Intersection area twice a week, focusing on violations in which recyclables, food waste and general household garbage — the last of which must be placed in designated pay-per-bag waste bags — are discarded together without proper sorting. Alongside the enforcement patrols, officials will distribute flyers explaining correct waste-separation methods to shop owners and residents.

Over the two months through July, the district conducted 87 guidance and enforcement actions in the area and handed out more than 100 informational flyers to shop owners to encourage proper disposal practices. The patrols and public outreach will continue through November.
