Dongwha Pharm. announced Wednesday that it will run a special Liberation Day campaign on its Naver brand store through Aug. 24, with a portion of proceeds going toward support for descendants of independence patriots.
Themed "Vitality Filling Everyday Life in Korea," the campaign is designed to honor the company's history of funding the independence movement during the Japanese colonial era through sales of its Hwalmyongsu digestive tonic, while providing tangible assistance to descendants of those who fought for independence.
Dongwha Pharm.'s predecessor, Donghwa Yakbang, served as a hub for "Seoul Yeontongbu," a clandestine liaison network connecting the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea with operatives inside the country during the Japanese colonial period. Its founding president, Min Gang, and other staff used proceeds from Hwalmyongsu sales to fund the independence movement.
During the campaign period, Dongwha Pharm. will donate 1 percent of sales revenue from its flagship Buchyopyo products — including Gashewal, Sodahewal and Pyeonanhewal Strong — sold through the Naver brand store to Habitat for Humanity Korea's residential environment improvement project for descendants of independence patriots.
The company will also offer its key products at discounted prices during the campaign. Customers who write a review after purchase will receive Naver Pay cashback, while those who set up store notifications or join the lounge membership will receive additional discount coupons.
Customers who make a purchase will also receive a limited-edition "Memory Keycap Keyring," created to encourage people to remember Liberation Day in their daily lives. The keyring features a "ㄱ"-shaped design incorporating the Taegukgi, the Korean word "Daehanminguk" in typography, the hibiscus flower and Dongwha Pharm.'s Buchyopyo fan logo, expressing the significance of liberation.
"We organized this campaign to honor the noble spirit of independence fighters and extend a helping hand to their descendants," a Dongwha Pharm. official said. "We hope the limited-edition goods will give people a chance to reflect on the meaning of liberation in their everyday lives."
