Program brings basic health screenings and medical services to elderly residents unable to visit hospitals
Dongducheon, led by Mayor Park Hyeong-deok, held a mobile medical clinic event Monday at the main conference room of the Patriots and Veterans Affairs Hall, providing health services to 60 national merit recipients.
The "Doctor GO" program, which the city has run since 2024, is designed to bring basic health screenings and other medical services directly to elderly residents who have difficulty visiting hospitals. It is a public-private partnership jointly operated by the Dongducheon Community Social Security Council and Gyeonggi Provincial Dongducheon Geriatric Hospital.
At Monday's event, participants received free basic checkups — including blood pressure measurements — to assess their health and were given guidance on managing their conditions and adopting practical wellness habits in daily life.
Elderly attendees said they were grateful that a doctor had come directly to them, as mobility difficulties had long made it hard to visit a hospital on their own. They said being able to consult about their ailments and receive health management advice on the spot was a welcome relief.
Dongducheon said it plans to continue pursuing a range of programs through ongoing public-private partnerships with related organizations, aiming to improve residents' welfare and build a healthier community.
