Seoul's Gangdong-gu said it received 247 policy proposals from 144 residents to mark the launch of the 9th elected term, and has completed its review of each submission's feasibility for incorporation into district policy.
To shape district governance together with residents and pursue effective policies, the district operated a dedicated online board titled "9th Elected Term — Listening to Residents," gathering a wide range of public input.
Residents across age groups took part, with those in their 30s and 40s accounting for about 60 percent of all participants.
Proposals were concentrated in areas closely tied to daily life. Traffic and safety led all categories with 105 submissions, followed by the environment with 61, urban affairs and the economy with 55, culture and sports with 27, education and childcare with 13, administration with 12, and other topics with 11. Proposals spanning multiple categories were counted in each relevant field.
In the traffic and safety category, residents called for new bus routes and increased service frequency, underground pedestrian walkways, routing the Songpa-Hanam Line (Line 3) through Dunchon-Oryun Station, a CCTV-based crime-prevention safety map, and improvements to school commute routes.
Environmental proposals focused on drainage systems, roads and green spaces, pest control, and the revitalization of Farmix Garden.
In the urban affairs and economy category, residents most frequently called for administrative support to facilitate JYP Entertainment's ground-breaking, transit-oriented development near Gildong Ecological Park, infrastructure expansion in Seongnae-dong, revitalization of the Godeok-ro and Dongnam-ro corridors, and the creation of an International Baccalaureate international education special zone.
By area, Myeongil and Godeok recorded the highest number of proposals at 74, followed by district-wide submissions at 70. Gildong and Dunchon came next with 63, then Cheonho and Seongnae with 17, Gangil and Sangil with 12, and Amsa with 11.
The district said it plans to fast-track proposals that can be implemented in the short term after review by relevant departments. Longer-term tasks requiring additional examination of budgets and regulatory frameworks will be weighed against feasibility and priority before being incorporated into future district governance.
For matters requiring coordination with outside agencies, the district said it will pursue ongoing consultations to find ways to reduce inconvenience for residents.
"Through these proposals, we were once again able to confirm residents' strong interest in and support for the development of our district," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "We will do everything in our power to ensure that the valuable opinions submitted are genuinely reflected in how we run the district, not merely filed away as suggestions."
