Seoul's Jung-gu district will accept applications from 200 residents and local workers between the ages of 19 and 60 for "Jung-gu Tuntun Run Club," an after-work running class, on a first-come, first-served basis starting Aug. 18.
Registration is available through the Jung-gu Health Mileage app or a QR code.
Of the 200 enrolled members, 30 participants per session will be accepted through a separate sign-up process. Members who wish to join a specific running class must register through a dedicated open chat room on a first-come, first-served basis for each session.
Regular classes run every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. from Sept. 10 through Nov. 19, spanning three months and eight sessions in total. Each session is divided into beginner or intermediate tracks, with routes winding through Jung-gu landmarks including Namsan Circular Road, Cheonggyecheon, Deoksugung Palace and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).
Professional running coaches will accompany participants at each session, providing instruction in techniques such as interval training, uphill running and tempo runs, as well as drills aimed at improving personal records. The opening session on Sept. 10 will double as a launch ceremony, held at 7 p.m. at Namsangol Hanok Village, with 30 beginner and 30 intermediate runners — 60 in total — taking part. For further details, contact the Jung-gu Public Health Center's Eonjena Tuntun Center at 02-3396-5671.
The district designed the program to improve access to health services for office workers and others who find it difficult to visit public health centers during daytime hours.
The initiative also reflects strong community demand: a one-day running class called "The Basics of Running," held in July, drew more than four times its capacity in applicants.
"We hope residents will run through the heart of the city after work, shake off the stress of daily life and find new energy," Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-sung said. "We will consistently develop tailored health programs that make it easy and enjoyable for residents to participate, even amid their busy schedules."
