Kim Dae-nyeon took office Wednesday as the new secretary general of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.
Kim, nominated for the post in late July, was formally appointed following consultations with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and approval by the KSOC board of directors. His term runs through August 2028.
Kim previously served as secretary general of the National Election Commission — a minister-level post — and built ties with the KSOC by chairing its election management committee for the 41st (2021) and 42nd (2025) elections. Since last year he has also chaired the KSOC's election system reform committee, contributing to the organization's institutional reform efforts before being tapped as secretary general.
At the inauguration ceremony held Wednesday at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, KSOC President Yu Seung-min said Kim "has worked alongside the KSOC and understands the organization and the field more deeply than anyone," adding that he expects Kim to "play a steadfast role in moving us toward a more transparent and trusted organization."
In his inaugural address, Kim said he felt "a heavy sense of responsibility for the weighty duty of serving as secretary general of the KSOC, which represents Korean sport," and pledged to "help establish the KSOC as an organization trusted by the public and create conditions where staff, member associations and those working in the field can do their jobs with confidence."
Kim began his duties Wednesday by opening dialogue with internal stakeholders, including the labor union, and will move on to broader cooperation with member associations, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Assembly.
