The Seoul Metropolitan District Mayors' Council, chaired by Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro, held its 203rd regular meeting Wednesday morning at the Planning Situation Room of Seoul City Hall.
The gathering marked the newly constituted council's first joint policy discussion of the Minseon 9 era, following a leadership election held in July.
A total of 22 participants attended, including council chair Lee and other district mayors and deputy mayors. Before the meeting, the council presented a plaque of appreciation to outgoing chair Seo Gang-seok, the district mayor of Songpa-gu.
The council reviewed nine shared district issues, including a restructuring of the community bus operating system and the transfer of authority to designate small-scale redevelopment zones.
On those two items, the council agreed to develop a unified position accounting for varying conditions across districts before submitting formal recommendations to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government.
"Because each district has different conditions and administrative environments, it is important to gather a wide range of views and work together toward solutions," Lee said. "Drawing on voices from the field in each district, we will have all 25 districts deliberate together on shared challenges, and actively push the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government to make the institutional improvements needed to bring about real change."
The council is a consultative body bringing together the mayors of Seoul's 25 autonomous districts. It discusses issues common to the districts and acts as a cooperative channel for recommending policy improvements to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government.
