Yeogieoddae, a comprehensive travel and leisure platform, signed an MOU with the Ministry of Interior and Safety to promote a sustainable travel culture. The two sides will pursue joint projects aimed at improving the environment at tourist destinations and boosting regional tourism.
The agreement builds on the success of Ssubongclub, an environmental, social and governance project Yeogieoddae has run since 2022 in which participants collect trash at travel destinations while experiencing local tourism activities. The program has collected more than 100,000 liters of waste to date.
Yeogieoddae will expand Ssubongclub by linking it with the Ministry of Interior and Safety's "Our Neighborhood Makeover" campaign. Starting with the first Ssubongclub tour of this year to Sokcho in Gangwon Province, the company plans to run a range of programs — including plogging, in which participants jog while picking up litter — in Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province and Jecheon in North Chungcheong Province. Through these efforts, Yeogieoddae aims to increase environmental improvement activities involving local residents and tourists and to uncover new value in regional tourism.
The signing ceremony was held Wednesday at Yeogieoddae's headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Vice Minister of Interior and Safety Kim Min-jae and Yeogieoddae CEO Jeong Myeong-hun attended and signed the agreement.
"Ssubongclub has shown that travel can have a positive impact on local communities and the environment," Jeong said. "Through our partnership with the Ministry of Interior and Safety, we will work to spread a sustainable travel culture to more regions and help build a healthy travel ecosystem created together by local communities and travelers."
