Yuhan announced Friday that it has signed a multilateral MOU with the Korean Pharmaceutical Association and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to provide systematic health support for elderly veterans, marking Liberation Day on Saturday.
The agreement builds on the "Nara Sarang Antiphlamine Sharing Project," a health-support initiative Yuhan has run since 2017, and expands it into a nationwide public-private partnership.
Since 2017, Yuhan has worked with regional veterans affairs offices in Seoul to deliver care packages — branded "Nara Sarang Antiphlamine sharing boxes" — to a total of 7,361 veterans. From 2022, pharmacists affiliated with the Korean Pharmaceutical Association began making home visits to provide personalized health consultations and medication guidance.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Yuhan said it aims to honor the patriotic spirit of its late founder, independence activist Dr. Yoo Il-han, by expanding support for veterans and their families. As a first step, the company will extend the program to Yongin and Cheongju — where its central research institute and Ochang factory are located — before broadening coverage nationwide through future agreements.
Under the MOU, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will identify elderly veterans with health vulnerabilities and build the administrative framework for the program. The Korean Pharmaceutical Association will draw on its nationwide network to deliver one-on-one medication counseling and health consultations on an ongoing basis. Yuhan will donate medicines and oversee the overall fiscal and material support needed to keep the program running.
The agreement goes beyond a one-time pharmaceutical donation, combining a company's founding-philosophy-based ESG activities with the administrative capacity of a central government ministry and the expertise of a healthcare professional organization to build a sustainable public-private welfare model.
"It is deeply meaningful to be able to give back to those who dedicated themselves to the nation through Antiphlamine, a product that embodies founder Dr. Yoo Il-han's patriotic spirit," a Yuhan official said. "We will continue to build on this public-private partnership to promote the health of veterans."
