Lotte Card joins AI security initiative as steward member

Lotte Card announced Friday it has joined Project Canopy, a public-interest AI security consortium, as a steward member to bolster its information security capabilities and domestic security infrastructure in the AI era. As a steward — one of the initiative's core operating members — Lotte Card will go beyond simple support to lead key decisions on fund contributions, governance operations, and vulnerability analysis and research.

Project Canopy was launched in June by Project Plasma, a nonprofit incorporated association, to spread AI-based vulnerability response technology. The consortium aims to automate vulnerability response using AI and build a multilateral cooperation framework to raise security capabilities at the national and industry level.

The consortium operates on a three-tier structure comprising stewards, defending partners, and research collaborators. Stewards, as the core operating body, participate in major decisions covering fund contributions, governance operations, and vulnerability analysis and research. They also receive priority access to analysis results on newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Through its membership, Lotte Card plans to secure AI-based vulnerability detection capabilities and up-to-date threat intelligence early, strengthening a proactive defense framework to protect customer assets and data.

"We have elevated our level of participation to further strengthen our information security capabilities and take a leading role in building a privately led cyber defense ecosystem," a Lotte Card official said. "We will continue working to proactively respond to AI-driven security threats and create a security environment where customers can use our services with confidence."

Lotte Card elevated its information security unit to report directly to the chief executive last October and has since been advancing its intrusion detection, anomaly monitoring, and data security systems. In December, its board approved a plan to invest about 120 billion won ($84.8 million) in information security over the next five years. The company also plans to raise the share of its IT budget allocated to information security to 15 percent.
