Shoo (44), a former member of the first-generation girl group S.E.S., opens up about her troubled skin and seeks solutions on a television program.
Shoo appears on Channel A's beauty show "Beauty Clinic Touch Me," airing Friday at 8 p.m.
On the program, she bares her face without makeup and shares her concerns about her skin. A longtime acquaintance expressed worry, saying, "Your face is sagging and wrinkles are visible even when you're just sitting there."
Once celebrated as an "original fairy" for her fresh-faced, youthful charm, Shoo is shown to have noticeable issues including skin sagging, hollowing and asymmetry.
Dermatologist Lim Yi-seok identified a "compromised skin barrier" as one of the key problems. He explained that when the skin barrier — which normally shields against external irritants and moisture loss — weakens, the skin becomes prone to redness and sensitivity, and aging can accelerate.
The root causes of her skin damage lay in her daily habits. Shoo had been following an extreme diet, wiping her face with cleansing tissues instead of properly washing it, and frequently exposing her skin to ultraviolet rays through tanning.
The production team put together a customized three-step solution to restore her skin barrier. Shoo underwent the treatment over roughly a month while actively working to change her lifestyle habits.
Her transformation will be revealed on Friday's episode of "Beauty Clinic Touch Me."
