Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul held a luncheon Friday to mark the last day of the traditional dog-days heat period, gathering with sanitation workers to hear their on-the-ground concerns and suggestions, the district said.
The event was the first meeting between District Mayor Choi Dong-min and sanitation workers since the elected 9th-term administration took office. It was organized to recognize the workers' efforts keeping roads and alleyways clean despite the relentless summer heat, and to hear directly about the difficulties they face on the job.
Choi joined the workers for lunch, discussing the hardships of working outdoors during the extreme heat and the challenges that arise in day-to-day cleaning duties. He expressed gratitude for their work and listened to a range of views on working conditions and field operations.
With autumn approaching and demand for cleaning set to rise as fallen leaves accumulate on roadsides, back streets and walking paths, Choi urged the workers to put in extra effort on leaf removal and environmental upkeep to ensure safe and pleasant conditions for residents.
"I am grateful for the hard work of our sanitation workers who give their all in the field even in this sweltering heat," Choi said. "I will work together with them to keep Dongdaemun-gu clean."
