Seocho-gu takes top volunteers on tour of Audium Museum

Seoul's Seocho-gu district held an Audium Museum tour for local volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday, the district office announced Thursday.

The tour was organized to recognize the dedication of outstanding volunteers who have served the community and to offer them a chance to recharge through culture and the arts. It also marked the first joint project between the Seocho-gu Volunteer Center and the Audium Museum, held as part of "Haengbok Plan," the center's volunteer appreciation and recognition program.

One hundred outstanding volunteers took part, selected from among past winners at the "Seocho V Festival," an annual event celebrating volunteer achievements. The group was divided into four sessions — two each morning and afternoon over the two days — with 25 participants per session. Guided by professional docents, attendees explored the history of audio and a range of sound equipment, deepening their understanding of acoustics.

The Audium Museum opened in June 2024 in Seocho-gu's Naegok-dong. Designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, the building's exterior is wrapped in 20,000 aluminum pipes evoking a forest bathed in light. Kenya Hara, known for his design work with Muji, handled the interior visual identity. The museum is a cultural space where visitors can encounter audio equipment spanning different eras, from Western Electric vintage audio systems to gramophones and music boxes.

"I am deeply grateful to all the volunteers who have consistently practiced sharing and service for our community," Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su said. "I hope this program gave our volunteers a chance to set aside the hard work of daily life for a moment and recharge by enjoying culture and the arts."
