A teenage girl who poured boiling water on her mother after the woman tried to stop her from running away from home has been arrested and is under investigation in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province.
The Namyangju Nambu Police Station arrested the girl, identified only as A, on Saturday on charges of aggravated assault against a lineal ascendant.
A allegedly poured boiling water over her mother's head and legs at around 12:50 a.m. that day, causing injuries. The mother, identified as B, 52, suffered second-degree burns and received hospital treatment.
Investigation revealed that A had wanted to leave home and stay with an older female acquaintance, but her mother intervened and took away her mobile phone. A then boiled water in an electric kettle and poured it on her mother.
A was apprehended outside the home alongside her mother after a neighbor called police.
Police plan to investigate the circumstances of the assault and are considering filing for a temporary protective measure to separate A from her mother.
