Mapo-gu is throwing its weight behind the normalization of Sangam Station and Seongsam Station on the Daejang-Hongdae Line, moves expected to bring direct transit benefits to residents.
The district passed road management agenda items for Station 109 (Sangam) and Station 110 (Seongsam) on the Daejang-Hongdae Line at its second-half 2026 Road Management Review Committee meeting on Thursday.
With the approval in place, parallel construction involving excavation work at both stations can now proceed, and the Daejang-Hongdae metropolitan railway project is expected to gain significant momentum.
At the first-half review earlier this year, the district had deferred the agenda items for Sangam and Seongsam stations, citing ongoing litigation demanding the relocation of Station 111 (Hongik University Station) and the addition of DMC Station.
At this review, however, the committee determined that the lawsuit had no direct bearing on road management matters related to Sangam and Seongsam stations.
"At the 'Dialogue with Residents' session held in July, we heard a steady stream of voices calling for the swift advancement of the Daejang-Hongdae Line project and improved transit conditions," a district official said. "The rapid progress of the Daejang-Hongdae metropolitan railway project and the resolution of local issues such as station relocation are not separate matters — viewed broadly, they stem from a single shared goal."
The review committee conducted a comprehensive assessment covering road management and safety concerns that could arise during construction, potential inconvenience to residents, and the transit benefits residents are seeking.
The need to accelerate the overall pace of the Daejang-Hongdae Line also figured prominently in the committee's deliberations. Construction has already begun on the Bucheon section, and both Gangseo-gu and Yangcheon-gu have completed their road management reviews. Given the project's interconnected nature and urgency, the district concluded it could no longer afford to delay its own review.
The agenda items related to Hongik University Station were deferred again, as they had been in the first-half review. The district said it needed more time to examine the ongoing lawsuit it has filed against the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport seeking to cancel approval of the private investment project implementation plan, as well as the station relocation issue that residents have persistently raised.
The deferral also reflects the district's firm stance in favor of relocating Hongik University Station and adding DMC Station and other stops to the line.
The district plans to conduct a thorough review of the Hongik University Station location and work with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and other relevant agencies to develop a reasonable solution that improves user convenience and local transit conditions.
The district also intends to see through the addition of DMC Station and other stops that residents have called for.
"We will spare no administrative effort to push forward swiftly on sections that bring benefits to residents and to build the transit network they need as quickly as possible," Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun said. "We will do our utmost to gather residents' opinions and ensure that changes to local transit translate into real, tangible benefits."
