LIV Golf officially cancels Team Championship

LIV Golf has officially canceled the LIV Golf Team Championship, the season finale.

AP and other international media reported Tuesday that LIV Golf had scrapped the Team Championship, which had been scheduled to run for four days starting Thursday at The Cardinal at St. John's in Plymouth, Michigan. All tickets already sold for the event will be fully refunded.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said in a statement that ending the 2026 season with LIV Golf Indianapolis would allow the organization to focus fully on preparing for its next chapter and managing the operational transition.

With the Team Championship canceled, LIV Golf Indianapolis — opening Thursday — becomes the 2026 season finale. The tournament will serve as a combined event, determining the individual champion and final standings while also tallying cumulative results across all 13 teams to crown the 2026 season team winner.

The cancellation is widely attributed to financial difficulties and a broader restructuring of the league. Analysts say the decision redirects operational resources as LIV Golf works to secure new investors and overhaul its structure following the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia's decision to halt additional funding.

Players are closely watching what will happen to the $40 million in team bonuses and prize money allocated to the Team Championship. Sources say there is considerable frustration among players, who have not received clear guidance on whether the full $40 million will be transferred to the Indianapolis event or reduced.
