Geumcheon-gu held its first party-administration council of the ninth elected term on Thursday at the district office's planning situation room, with the local chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea, the district said.
The council was convened to share the district's governance direction for the ninth elected term and key local issues, and to jointly explore solutions. The district plans to build a communication framework between the local party and the executive branch to ensure stable governance over the next four years and strengthen cooperation.
About 30 people attended, including District Mayor Choi Ki-chan and senior district officials, National Assembly lawmaker Choi Ki-sang, Seoul Metropolitan Council members Lee In-sik and Park Hee-jeong, Geumcheon District Council Speaker Ko Seong-mi, district council members and local party representatives.
The council discussed 25 key issues and areas of cooperation for Geumcheon-gu's development. Directors responsible for 12 major projects requiring cooperation from the central government and the Seoul Metropolitan Government presented directly and discussed the way forward with attendees, while the remaining 13 items were shared in writing.
The major issues on the agenda included resolving resident conflicts over data centers, establishing the Geumcheon International Foreign Language Center, setting up the Gasan 119 Safety Center, acquiring additional space for the relocation of a shelter for the visually impaired, mixed-use development of the Southern Women's Development Center, mixed-use development of the Air Force base site, mixed-use development of Geumcheon-gu Office Station, revising the detailed development plan for the Boo-young site special planning zone (including construction of a large general hospital), relocating and rebuilding the Geumcheon Resource Circulation Center, improving traffic safety measures on Geumha-ro, road improvement works on Tapgol-ro, and expanding the integrated public parking lot in Siheung 1-dong.
Particular focus was placed on two items: the long-standing community priority of revising the Boo-young site special planning zone development plan, and improving traffic safety on Geumha-ro — an issue directly tied to resident safety. Participants shared project progress and discussed future cooperation in depth.
Issues closely tied to residents' daily lives were also addressed, including construction of an underground parking lot in the Gasan-dong neighborhood park and support for normalizing village bus services. Attendees shared the support and cooperation needed to ease residents' inconveniences and accelerate project progress.
The district plans to use the council as a springboard to establish a regular communication framework between the party and administration and to continuously share updates on major local issues. Items discussed will be coordinated with relevant agencies and followed up on to develop practical solutions.
Lawmaker Choi Ki-sang said he hoped the party and administration would have frequent opportunities to discuss local issues together. "The longer an issue has gone unresolved, the stronger the resolve needed to tackle it," he said. "For challenges that have dragged on for years, it is above all important that the party and the district meet residents directly, listen to their views and keep the lines of communication open."
District Mayor Choi Ki-chan said the first party-administration council of the ninth elected term had been a meaningful occasion to share the major challenges facing Geumcheon and discuss solutions together. "Going forward, we will build on close communication and cooperation between the party and the administration to resolve long-standing community priorities and the issues that matter most to residents' daily lives, one by one, and leap forward as a new Geumcheon," he said.
