Pulmuone announced Tuesday that its ice factory in Seo-myeon, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, has become the first dedicated edible-ice manufacturing facility in South Korea to obtain Global HACCP certification.
Global HACCP is a food safety management system that systematically controls food hazards in accordance with internationally recognized food safety standards. It evaluates not only hygiene management throughout the production process but also food security measures against intentional external contamination and whether control standards are being implemented on the factory floor.
With this certification, the Chuncheon ice factory has obtained all four major food safety certifications: standard HACCP, Smart HACCP, Global HACCP and FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification). It is the only edible-ice manufacturer in South Korea to hold all four.
The Chuncheon factory was established in the early 1990s and has since introduced purification, water treatment and sterilization equipment in stages. It has steadily strengthened its safety framework — earning FSSC 22000 in 2018, Smart HACCP in 2023 and Global HACCP this year. During the latest certification process, the company integrated the requirements of FSSC 22000 and Global HACCP into a unified management system and streamlined inspection items to make them easier for factory floor workers to follow.
The factory currently produces 11 products in total — eight varieties of bagged ice and three cup-ice products. In addition to regular water-quality testing, it conducts its own microbiological inspections daily and operates an integrated hygiene management system that includes equipment cleaning and residual-water management to prevent secondary contamination of pipes, tanks and ice-making machinery.
