Dongkuk Steel Mill Group sponsors '815 Run' charity marathon for third straight year

Dongkuk Steel Mill Group announced Tuesday that it sponsored the 2026 "815 Run," a charity marathon organized by Habitat for Humanity Korea.

The 815 Run is a fundraising marathon campaign aimed at improving the living conditions of descendants of independence movement patriots. It has been held annually on Liberation Day since 2020.

Dongkuk Steel Mill Group has continued its sponsorship since 2024, saying the event's purpose aligns with the founding spirit the company has upheld since its establishment in 1954 — "steelmaking for the nation," or contributing to the country through steel.

This year, the group contributed a total of 20.6 million won to Habitat for Humanity Korea, combining a sponsorship donation of 8.15 million won ($5,760) with 12.45 million won in registration fees paid by 230 employees and their family members. Cumulative donations now stand at 61.85 million won.

The group said it has expanded its social support from uniformed civil servants — including military personnel, firefighters and police officers — to now encompass descendants of independence movement patriots.

Dongkuk Steel Mill Group plans to continue fulfilling its social responsibilities under its corporate social contribution strategy, "Move Together, Move Green," which focuses on building a better society and a sustainable environment.

Meanwhile, the group recently held a signing ceremony at the Catholic Center in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, pledging an additional five years of support for the Myeongdong Bapjip community meal program and extending an existing five-year sponsorship, as part of its broader corporate social responsibility efforts.
