Shinhan Financial Group (chairman Jin Ok-dong) announced Tuesday that the 42nd Shinhan Donghae Open will be held from Sept. 10 to 13 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Songdo, Incheon.
The Shinhan Donghae Open was founded in 1981 by Korean Japanese golfers led by the late Lee Hee-geon, honorary chairman of Shinhan Bank, with the aim of advancing golf in South Korea and nurturing top players. The longest-running professional golf tournament sponsored by a single company in South Korea, the event carries a purse of 1.5 billion won ($1.06 million).
This year's edition marks a new chapter as the tournament will be co-organized by the KPGA Tour and the Japan Golf Tour Organization, broadening the stage for golf exchange between the two countries through high-level competition. With the Asian Games on the horizon, the event is expected to draw wide attention as an early preview of head-to-head matchups between top players from both nations.
Among those set to compete are Kim Sung-hyun, Moon Do-yeop and Higa Kazuki, all expected to contend for medals at the Asian Games. Jang Yu-bin, who has five career KPGA Tour wins including two this season, will also take part, as will LIV Golf players Song Young-han and Lee Tae-hoon. Jeong Eui-seok, a third-year student at Cheonan Jungang Broadcasting and Communications High School who earned his spot by winning last month's 3rd Shinhan Donghae Men's Amateur Golf Championship, will represent amateur players at the tournament.
"The Shinhan Donghae Open, which began in 1981, has grown alongside the development of golf in South Korea and stands as one of the country's most storied tournaments," Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin said. "With the Asian Games approaching, I hope this event — where top players from both South Korea and Japan compete side by side — will serve as a meaningful opportunity to deepen golf exchange between the two countries."
Meanwhile, tickets for the 42nd Shinhan Donghae Open go on sale Tuesday through Unitix, the tournament's official ticketing channel.
