Choo Mi-ae urges vigilance as Gyeonggi Province kicks off Ulchi CPX

Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae called for a firm security posture Tuesday, saying "the ordinary daily lives of residents can only be protected on the foundation of solid national security."

Choo made the remarks at the opening situation briefing of the 2026 Ulchi CPX, held at 8 a.m. in the wartime integrated operations center. "The Ulchi CPX is a critically important exercise in which civilians, government and the military unite to conduct realistic training, checking our crisis-response capabilities against national emergencies such as war or armed conflict and strengthening our national emergency preparedness," she said. "Gyeonggi Province's security is the security of the Republic of Korea. There must not be a single moment of complacency when it comes to security."

She went on to note that Gyeonggi Province is both a border region and the most densely populated area in the country, home to key national and military installations and more than 50 percent of the armed forces' combat power. "I ask that you spare no effort in establishing a wartime emergency-preparedness posture through this Ulchi CPX, which runs for four days starting today," she said.

Choo urged officials to respond swiftly and decisively based on function-specific Chungmu plans, place the protection of residents above all else, and ensure that administrative functions do not stop even in wartime. "I hope the Ulchi CPX concludes successfully and serves as an opportunity for Gyeonggi Province's crisis-management capabilities to leap forward to the next level," she added.

The Ulchi CPX is a nationwide pan-government emergency-preparedness exercise conducted to protect the lives and property of citizens in the event of a national emergency such as war or a terrorist attack.
