Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul has launched the "Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Learning University — AI & Digital Academy" in partnership with the University of Seoul, opening enrollment Tuesday to help residents strengthen their digital competitiveness.
The Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Learning University is a continuing education project run in collaboration with universities to build a public-academic lifelong learning network.
The AI & Digital Academy curriculum was selected under the Ministry of Education's 2026 Lifelong Learning City Specialization Intensive Promotion District project. The district plans to use the program to offer residents tiered, customized AI education.
The program runs two main courses tailored to different age groups and goals. The "AI Upskilling" course, beginning Aug. 29, focuses on practical workplace skills — covering basic AI tools and prompt usage, data analysis, general office tasks, and report and content writing.
The "AI in Everyday Life for Middle-Aged and Senior Residents" course, opening Sept. 7, offers customized instruction to help older adults use generative AI easily and effectively in their daily lives.
An additional smartphone-based AI course is also set to open at the Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Center in September, broadening opportunities for residents to build their AI skills.
Registration opens Tuesday with the AI Upskilling course and can be completed online through the Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Center website.
"I hope this education serves as a stepping stone for residents to strengthen their digital capabilities and improve their daily lives," district mayor Choi Dong-min said. "We will continue to actively pursue systematic and effective lifelong education policies so that no resident is left behind in this era of digital transformation."
